What changed

Under the SOP of 4 May 2026, government-route proposals filed on the FIF/NSWS portal have a 12-week decision target, plus two weeks where rejection or additional conditions are proposed. Time taken by the applicant is excluded. Land-border stakes of up to 49% in fast-track sectors have a 60-day target. Proposals above ₹5,000 crore of foreign equity go to the Cabinet Committee.

Who it affects

Investors needing government approval, including those with land-border ownership.

What to do

Build the target into deal timelines, file complete applications to avoid paused clocks, and allow for ministry comments.
